Who is the Joy and Whimsy Club?

Joy and Whimsy Club’s mission is centered around three main goals:

• Connecting students from all different majors with each other through a smaller community in RIT that is inclusive to anyone, no matter their background, interests, or career goals.
• Promoting physical, emotional, and mental well-being for all members as well as non-members in the RIT community through our events, projects, and community dialogue.
• Supporting the growth of all its members in positive ways, including advancing leadership skills, creativity, and other areas of development.

The entire purpose of the Joy and Whimsy Club is to respectfully promote joy far and wide, even in unexpected ways or places. Joy and Whimsy Club is an inclusive, safe, and inspiring place for all RIT students, alumni, and members of the community. We aim to connect people across all disciplines and communities. We emphasize mingling among different people at our events, which leads to new friendships and connections. Life can get stressful and heavy.

Our club creates a space to let go, breathe, take a break, and be silly. Many of our members appreciate the break in their week and the reminder to appreciate the small things that were once important to them. The Joy and Whimsy Club implements these goals through its general meetings, events, and outreach initiatives. Three of our most recent and engaging activities were Shark Tank, Gymnastics Club Collaboration, and playing in the snow. Shark Tank was a general meeting where club members were randomly assigned to a group and had a limited amount of time to create a joyous and whimsical invention to pitch to the Sharks. The event encouraged teamwork, collaboration, public speaking, creativity, and leadership. Additionally, the Joy and Whimsy Club collaborated with the RIT Gymnastics Club to learn tumbling and cartwheels. This event helped emphasize the importance of physical and mental wellness, as well as developing and collaborating with a broader community. Joy and Whimsy Club also recently had an event to play in the snow. Our club members braved the Rochester cold to build snowmen, throw snowballs, and meet new people in a new setting. Joy and Whimsy Club is committed to its mission and goals.
