Who are the Brick City Boppers?
The Brick City Boppers are the members of RIT's swing dancing club! Swing dancing is a historically African American dance. By promoting and running the club for over 25 years, we are bringing some of the culture that makes RIT so unique to campus. Our club is a safe space to learn new skills and socialize as an escape from day-to-day stressors.
The Brick City Boppers provide dance education and experiences for its members. This may take the form of admission to dance festivals and classes, both local and domestic/international. We strive to create a community that reveres the history and passion of lindy hop. Our weekly meetings include beginner-friendly lessons as well as intermediate to advanced lessons for those looking to fine-tune their skills.
Between lessons, we provide history lessons to enrich our members' experience in club. Additionally, we allow time for social dancing to practice what the group has learned and enjoy dancing with others. The Brick City Boppers aim to build connections by supporting a long-standing genre of dance and have fun while doing it. We host special events such as social dances (which includes our biannual live band dance) and workshops with guest instructors. The Boppers also take part in showcases that demonstrate our skills and talent within the club!
