Who is the Co-ed Wrestling Club?
The Co-ed Wrestling Club is in its first year, built on a shared passion but inspired by different personal motivations. For some of our officers, wrestling represents self-defense and empowerment. For others, it is about recreating the strong sense of community they experienced in high school — the close bonds formed through training together, the shared challenges, and the mindset developed through discipline and resilience.
As we began building the club, we recognized opportunities to grow beyond the mat. We envisioned a team that not only trains together but also gives back together. Civic engagement and volunteerism became natural extensions of our mission. Our foundational goals are centered on building character, discipline, leadership, and lifelong skills — values that extend far beyond wrestling. Now that RIT has completed the mat room, we have officially begun regular wrestling practices. To grow awareness and attract new members, we have participated in several non-wrestling competitions and campus events. Over the past three weeks alone, we’ve seen a significant increase in new wrestlers joining the club.
We have also begun expanding outward. We’ve established contact with another school to organize intercollegiate matches, and we are in communication with Mt. Hope Cemetery to maintain a designated plot of land as part of our civic engagement efforts. These initiatives reflect our commitment not just to athletic growth, but to community involvement and leadership development.
