Who is the Electric Vehicle Team?
The Electric Vehicle Team is a multidisciplinary team that meets three days a week to design, build, and integrate electric motorcycles. Established in 2012, our team is dedicated to promoting the viability of electric vehicles through practical design of electric motorbikes.
The team aims to educate people on the principles of electric vehicle design by engaging students in challenging and rewarding projects that cover a wide variety of academic disciplines. A perfect example of our team's work is REV3, the team's third electric road-racing superbike.
For this platform, our mechanical team designed and manufactured a new 11.3 kWh battery pack with active liquid cooling to power the system. Our electrical team designed a suite of control and power electronics, integrating functional safety concepts from ISO 26262 for the first time on any of our platforms. Our firmware team integrated ThreadX RTOS into our core library to provide new safety features for our central vehicle controller. Our integration team utilized data from a new MongoDB telemetry database to help tune our PM100DXR motor controller. Our design team manufactured carbon fiber fairings for the first time since 2016, reducing weight and adding flair appropriate for the most advanced motorcycle our team has ever built.
In August 2025, REV3 dominated its first track test at the Pineview Track reaching a respectable 130 mph.
