Who is House of General Science (HoGS)?
The House of General Science (HoGS) is one of RIT's special interest houses in campus dorms. We provide a space for any students with an interest in science to live with us on our floor, and participate in fun near-daily events. We have people from a wide variety of majors, not just the hard sciences, and accept people from all majors. Some of the many subjects that our members study include engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and graphic design. Overall, HoGS has always been an amazing place for students both new and returning to both make friends and learn while at RIT.
Each semester, we work hard on a selection of projects which are presented at events like our Brick City Weekend Science Playground, Rochester Maker Faire, Imagine RIT, and more. These projects provide an excellent learning experience for our members, as well as fun activities for visitors at these events. We also have a strong interest in community service projects, such as our yearly 24 hour Extra Life charity live stream.
As a member, there is never a shortage of things to do. On a weekly basis, we establish a list of fun events both on and off our floor. These can include smaller events like game or movie nights, study sessions, and campus dinners. There are also some larger events like holiday parties, informational meetings, and campus-centered events like War Pigs Nerf, a Nerf capture the flag game. HoGS prides itself on being both a place for students to have fun and catch a break from hard work, while also providing learning opportunities and ways to gain hands-on experience with projects.
