Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Get in the Game 2024.

What is Get in the Game?

Get in the Game is RIT Athletics' spring fundraising campaign. Every team and student-athlete is fundraising for five days to raise funds for their sport. Gifts will be used to enhance the student-athlete experience which may include funding special team trips, equipment, and other team priorities as determined by the head coach. It’s a special opportunity for alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, and fans to come together to support their favorite team. This year’s fourth annual Get in the Game will kick off on Monday, March 18, and end on Friday, March 22, 2024.

How can I Get in the Game?

Can I give to any team during Get in the Game?

Yes!  You may direct your gift to one or more teams and 100% of your gift goes directly to the team(s) you designate. To support all teams, consider directing your gift to our General Athletics fund. Unrestricted gifts to this general fund provide resources that allow RIT Athletics to take advantage of unanticipated opportunities and react to unforeseen challenges that support all student-athletes.

Is there a minimum gift amount?

Yes, the minimum amount for online gifts is $5.

What if I’ve already made my annual gift this year?

Thank you for your support! By participating in Get in the Game you can give extra support to RIT Athletics or the team you love the most.

Besides giving, how can I help Get in the Game be a success?

You can also encourage others to make their gift! There are so many ways to spread the word! Visit our toolkit: https://www.rit.edu/giving/gitgtoolkit and be a Get in the Game social ambassador; let your friends, family, and networks know that you’ve made a gift; and encourage them to give too. Post on your favorite social platform using #GetintheGame. Send an e-mail or text message; make a call. Whatever method you choose, your voice will make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes.

Can I give to more than one team?

Yes! You can make multiple gifts at one time. As you check out one gift, make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select RIT Athletics or the other team(s) you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your gift.

When will my card be charged?

Your credit or debit card will be charged immediately after you make your gift.

What is the Sentinel Society?

The Sentinel Society recognizes a community of leadership donors who make a meaningful annual investment in the university. Together, these donors play a pivotal role in providing gifts that provide unrestricted support for RIT’s most pressing and immediate needs across campus, including RIT Athletics. To learn more, visit the Sentinel Society website. To join today, please complete our online form.

Will I receive a receipt for my gift?

Yes! Official tax receipts are issued to the legal donor at the time gifts are made for outright gifts and pledge payments. These receipts, which may be sent electronically or through USPS, must comply with IRS and include substantiation statements for goods or services received as a result of the gift.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

RIT, under IRS law, qualifies as a charitable and tax-exempt organization. If you make a charitable gift to RIT, you may take an income tax deduction. Under current law, contributions to charitable organizations are tax deductible only for taxpayers who itemize. For itemizers, such donations generally reduce taxable income and, therefore, federal income tax liability. RIT recommends you consult with a tax advisor when attempting to claim a charitable deduction. For more information, please visit the IRS website.
